hi ❤️ i’m approaching august with heavy back to school vibes! not in a rigid/hustle way, but in the spirit of curious structure. this month i’ve create a DIY syllabus made up of three self-led “courses” that mix tech, creativity, and mystery.
i stumbled on this self-led learning curriculum on TikTok and it couldn’t have come at a better time. i’m feeling more inspired than ever.
💻 CODE 101: Neocities & Web building for Fun
i’ve always loved internet personal sites and neocities feels like a call back to my tumblr and myspace days. this month, i’m diving into basic html/css to build my own site from scratch! while this is not intended to be strict, i do have adhd so i devised a week by week break down:
week 1: learn HTML basics → build the homepage
week 2: add styling with CSS → fonts, colors, layout
week 3: add internal pages and organize content
week 4: customize and publish
the vibes are more digital playground less portfolio.
🎨 ART 101: The Artist’s Way + Craft at Home
for more creativity unlocking, i’m going to begin The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. this is marketed as a classic for unblocking creativity. i’m pairing it with low stakes crafts, like painting and jewelry making. from what i understand this book provides some natural structure, so more to come when my book arrives.
🕵️ CRIM 101: Can You Solve the Murder?
we’re all about balance over here and what’s more grounding than a murder mystery? this is my required textbook list:
weekly goals:
solve 2-3 Murdle’s
watch a classic mystery movie or show (knives out, clue)
keep track of my detective notes
no grades, no pressure - just the joy of curiosity! i’m already thinking about my syllabi for the rest of the year. if you feel called to do something similar, i’d love to hear all about it!
here’s to a playful august,
amanda
